About the role

Spotify for Authors (SFA) is the creator platform for the audiobook industry — a web application that gives publishers, authors, and narrators tools to manage their catalog, track performance, and distribute content on Spotify. We're scaling toward 100,000 users across a React/TypeScript frontend, Java backend services, and data pipelines that feed into Spotify's broader audiobook ecosystem.
SFA connects to Spotify's highest-priority bets: expanding audiobook access, building content creation tools, and shaping discovery surfaces. We operate with a "short toes" philosophy — contribution has no borders, quality is shared, and we use modern tools (including AI) to reduce toil and amplify creativity.

What You'll Do
Backend focused experience with hands-on frontend experience.
Build and evolve features end-to-end across a React/TypeScript frontend and Java backend services that power the SFA platform at scale

Use AI-assisted development tools as a core part of your workflow for code generation, automated testing, and AI-powered code review

Help your squad build effective AI-assisted practices

Solve scalability, reliability, and performance challenges as SFA grows toward 100K users

Collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and designers to ship impactful experiences for audiobook creators

Author and collaborate on technical RFCs to document approaches and architectural trade-offs

Contribute to technical direction and help shape how we build within the SFA product area

Support and grow the team through mentorship, knowledge sharing, and thoughtful communication

Who You Are
You have strong experience building web applications across the stack. Typescript and Java knowledge preferred.

T-shaped: deep in your specialty, intensely curious about the rest.

You think product-first while building tech solutions

You're comfortable designing and operating distributed systems and microservices architectures

You actively use AI tools (agents, code assistants, AI-powered reviews, generative prototyping) in your daily work

You break ambiguous problems into clear, executable milestones and bias toward shipping

You're comfortable with modern infrastructure practices (CI/CD, containers, cloud platforms) and care about observability

You have excellent communication skills and default to over-communication in a distributed team

Where You'll Be
Distributed workforce, EU region. We collaborate across European and Eastern US time zones
