People operations & payroll - Working Student (Berlin)

Berlin, Germany | Working student | Fixed-term

Join our Northern Europe People Enablement team and gain hands-on experience in a regional HR function at SumUp. As a Working Student, you'll support People Operations in Germany, helping manage contracts, HR administration, benefits, HR systems and payroll processes. It's an opportunity to build practical HR experience while contributing to a team that's shaping how People Operations are delivered across five countries.

What you'll do

Handle employee queries via our People team service desk and keep HRIS data accurate in Workday

Manage employment contract administration, including contract creation, amendments, and signature tracking

Manage benefits administration end to end — sign-ups, Workday updates, payroll communication, and invoices

Organise, digitise, and file incoming physical post and sensitive employee documents

Support the payroll team with data accuracy tasks and basic Excel-based reporting where capacity allows

You'll be great for this role if…

Fluency in both German and English (written and verbal) — essential for day-to-day communication and document handling

Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy when managing confidential information

Comfortable working with Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP

Ability to manage multiple recurring tasks independently, with strong time management and organisational skills

Currently enrolled in university for at least three semesters, with a proactive mindset and a genuine interest in People Operations or HR

You'll work alongside experienced People professionals, gain exposure to regional HR operations across multiple countries, and build valuable experience in the fast-growing fintech industry
