About the Role:

As Gropyus moves into the next phase of scaling up, we anticipate our Data growing rapidly. As such, we’re looking for an experienced, enthusiastic Data Governance professional to join the Data and AI vertical. This role reports directly to the Head of Data and AI and will act as a high-level individual contributor as well as a strategic thought partner for not only the Data Leadership team (consisting of Head, Managers, and Product partners) but partners across Gropyus.

A successful candidate in this role will help us apply our Semantic Ontologies to our centralized Data Fabric as well as consult and advise tech domain expert teams on improving resilient, secure and well-documented data in accordance with compliance standards and in partnership with our Governance, Risk & Compliance team. They will lead initiatives such as expanding our current Data Management offerings for the Data Fabric, integrating securely and effectively with AI agents and services, and implementing stronger processes for data provenance within the Tech department.  

What you'll be doing:

Define, develop, implement and maintain the data governance framework, policies, standards, and procedures.  

Contribute to the strategy of the Data Team including proposing and leading governance initiatives for both team roadmaps and potentially the larger company operational milestone.  

Pairing with our process specialists, drive to best practices in data management including Data contracts, SOPs, retention, and access control. 

Lead and report on data quality initiatives: metrics, monitoring, remediation, profiling, and continuous improvement. 

Drive improvements to our Data Catalog and metadata management within Tech. 
 

Identify and help manage data-related risks; collaborate on audits and compliance reviews.  

Contribute to our Data Literacy efforts and expand training opportunities for our internal stakeholders. 

Work closely with our Governance, Risk & Compliance, Information Security, and Corporate IT teams to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and internal requirements. 

What you bring:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Management, Information Assurance, Computer Science, IT or related fields.  

Significant, specialized experience (5+ years) in data governance, data quality, data management. 

Experience with data governance frameworks & best practices (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK, data stewardship models)  

Strong knowledge of data quality dimensions and tools; ability to define, measure, monitor, remediate data quality. 

Good understanding of data architecture, data modeling, metadata management, data lineage.  

Strong communication, stakeholder management skills; ability to influence, negotiate, collaborate cross-teams.  

Proficient in working with regulatory and legal data/privacy requirements (e.g. GDPR. EU AI Act) 

 Desirable Skills:

Hands-on experience with one or more data governance opensource tools or platforms

Past projects or familiarity with Ontologies, OWL and Semantic languages

Familiarity with Data Architecture Concepts

Familiarity or Experience with Graph Databases

Experience with highly complex, dynamic domains (Construction, Consulting, or Health Care)
