About the role

Revenue Accountant

Accounting & Finance · Berlin, Germany

Our Mission For You

Own the revenue & AR engine of a scaling energy-tech company, where clean accounting directly enables growth, trust, and Series-B-readiness.
trawa enables mid-sized companies to access green, intelligent energy. Our business sits at the intersection of energy flows, complex B2B contracts, and fast-moving markets, which makes our revenue anything but standard: energy products, variable pricing, and multiple billing cadences, each with its own recognition logic and data source.
As our Revenue Accountant, you will own the processes that turn this complexity into clean, auditable numbers. You'll work closely with our Tech and Data team on 15-minute interval energy data, hundreds of contract variants, and data flowing from CRM, energy warehouse, and finance tooling into a single revenue truth. A lot of what you'll need doesn't exist yet, you'll help build it from the ground up.
This is a role for someone who wants real ownership in a small, fast-growing team, and who is looking for a company they can grow with as we scale toward Series B and beyond.

What You'll Own

Revenue Recognition & Contract Accounting

Apply and maintain revenue recognition policies (HGB today, IFRS 15 on the horizon) across trawa's customer and contract types

Translate commercial terms (variable pricing, multi-element arrangements, energy-specific structures) into the right accounting treatment

Own and reconcile deferred revenue and energy accrual schedules

Customer Billing & Accounts Receivable
Co-own a defined scope of the invoicing process end-to-end, from creation through reconciliation

Drive AR reconciliations and aging; own dunning and collections

Month-End Close, Reporting & Audit Readiness
Own revenue-related close activities: journal entries, account reconciliations, variance commentary

Maintain audit-ready workpapers and documentation for all revenue and AR positions

Proactively flag policy gaps and propose fixes, before the auditor does

IT & Finance Transformation
Contribute to our Billing Tool Rollout and ERP selection as the revenue voice

Help replace manual workflows with automations, you don't just flag inefficiencies, you fix them

Your First 90 Days

Month 1 - Learn the Landscape: Build an understanding of trawa's business model, revenue processes, and accounting workflows, while taking ownership of recurring tasks such as invoice tracking, reconciliations, and AR reviews.

Month 2 - Take Ownership: Independently manage key revenue accounting activities, contribute to the month-end close, and identify opportunities to improve billing, reconciliation, or revenue recognition processes.

Month 3 - Build and Improve: Own assigned close activities end-to-end, deliver audit-ready documentation, and drive one structural improvement to revenue reporting or process automation.

Who You Are

3-5 years in accounting, with meaningful exposure to complex revenue accounting, AR, or billing, ideally in a B2B SaaS, energy, or tech-enabled business

Solid accounting fundamentals with hands-on experience in IFRS 15 or HGB revenue recognition in a contract-heavy environment, comfortable with deferred revenue and month-end close

Ownership mindset: you don't wait to be told what's broken, you find it, fix it, and document it

Analytical and data-curious: comfortable with large datasets, spotting anomalies, forming a hypothesis and testing it against the data before escalating

Structured and detail-oriented: your reconciliations are clean, your documentation holds up under audit scrutiny

Proficient in Excel / Google Sheets

Business fluent in German and English

Nice to Have

AI-first mindset: hands-on with tools like Langdock, Claude, ChatGPT, or n8n, you've built workflows, not just used chat. Bonus if you've built your own automations.

SQL or Python basics (or willingness to learn quickly) to query billing and energy data directly

Experience with DATEV, Moss, Airtable, or ERP implementations

Exposure to energy billing, commodity contracts, or variable pricing structures

Experience supporting or preparing for an external audit

Don't worry if you don't match every box, we value drive and learning speed over perfect CVs

What We Offer

Real ownership from day one, you'll run processes that directly affect the quality of our financial reporting and customer relationships

A uniquely complex business model at the intersection of energy, software, and B2B contracts

An AI-first Finance team that embraces new tools and ways of working, we automate first, hire second

Direct collaboration with Finance leadership and cross-functional leaders from day one

Accelerated career growth in a scaling environment where your scope grows with the business

Flexible working, 30 vacation days, L&D budget, competitive compensation, meal vouchers, Urban Sports membership, and a vibrant Berlin office culture
