About the role

1KOMMA5°

At 1KOMMA5°, we pursue a clear vision: Living on wind and sunlight forever for free. To make this a reality, we are building the energy system of the future with Heartbeat AI. Want to be part of it?

We bring together regional craftsmanship and scalable software: We don't think of solar, batteries, heat pumps, and e-mobility as isolated components, but control them as an intelligent, integrated overall system in our virtual power plant. Directly connected to the electricity market – in real time, fully automated. This way, energy is used when it is available from renewables and particularly cost-effective. By 2030, our goal is to transition 1.5 million households to renewable energies. Over 3,000 people are working towards this every day, at more than 80 locations worldwide, from Finland to Australia.

Want to take responsibility and build solutions that truly matter? Apply now and help us shape the energy world of tomorrow.

Deine Position

At 1KOMMA5°, we connect and manage distributed energy devices at scale. As a Working Student Lab Engineer, you'll help maintain and optimise our lab environment, where we test and integrate solar, battery, heat pump, and EV charging solutions. Working closely with experienced engineers, you'll gain hands-on experience with hardware testing, system simulations, and real-time data analysis.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in improving and scaling control and monitoring software for lab support equipment and testing infrastructure.

Design and implement intuitive, user-friendly interfaces (UIs) for internal lab tools and hardware controllers.

Help build, configure, and maintain a centralized lab server architecture and control device to streamline lab operations.

Improve skills for AI agent-driven development for test automation and verification

Develop and integrate a centralized, structured database for lab equipment and resource tracking (moving away from static tools like Miro toward flexible, editable systems such as Google Workspaces or custom databases).

Develop prompt/profile-based control interfaces for lab hardware, including EV emulators, programmable loads, and power profiles.

Dein Profil

Enrolled in a Master’s degree program in Computer Science, Automation Engineering Embedded Systems, or a related field.

Available to work 16–20 hours per week (working student)

Passionate about automation, IoT projects, or personal hardware/software setups (e.g., Home Assistant, custom server setups, microcontroller networks).

Familiar with state of the art AI development using Tools like Claude Code, Cursor and other development tools

Strong problem-solving skills with a high degree of independence and curiosity to experiment with new technologies.

We are an ambitious and dynamic company with a talented team. We require our engineers to be imaginative, enthusiastic, and willing to tackle new challenges as we strive to provide everyone with renewable energy technologies.
