About the role

About ecopals
ecopals is building the leading performance additive platform for asphalt and bitumen modification, engineered for regional, sovereign supply chains and backed by strong unit economics. Our current product line is built on high-performance polymers, with further additive categories in active development. In the last two years, we have scaled to active operations in more than 10 EU countries, and we are now pushing decisively into Eastern Europe, CEE and North Africa.
As we enter our next growth phase, we are opening a mandatory internship position for Technical Project Engineer (m/f/d). The role works closely with our R&D, commercial and management teams and supports the implementation of technical projects across suppliers, laboratories, development partners and customers.
The position is particularly suited to someone who enjoys combining engineering, project coordination and analytical work, and who can help move technical projects from an initial concept toward testing, documentation and implementation.
Tasks
In this internship, you will support the development and execution of technical projects around ecopals' products and applications. A key part of the role is helping coordinate the different internal and external parties involved and ensuring that technical activities, information and next steps continue moving forward.
Areas of responsibility
Technical project coordination. Supporting the planning and execution of development and application projects, including timelines, technical requirements, responsibilities and next steps.

Supplier and partner coordination. Working with material suppliers, laboratories, manufacturers and technical partners to request information, clarify requirements, follow up on open topics and help keep projects progressing.

Project communication and follow-up. Preparing and following up on emails, technical requests, meeting notes, action points and documentation required from internal and external stakeholders.

Technical applications. Translating R&D results and product knowledge into practical recommendations, formulations, dosage concepts and application guidelines for different projects and markets.

Testing and experimental support. Supporting test programmes and external laboratory work, preparing material samples for laboratories and customers, assisting with in-house experimental setups, and helping collect and evaluate results.

Technical documentation. Preparing technical reports, product documentation, project summaries, presentations and supporting materials for customers, partners and internal decision making.

Technical and economic analysis. Supporting the evaluation of materials, production routes, project costs, CO₂ reduction and the technical-economic value of different solutions.

Data analysis and management. Structuring project and experimental data and supporting the maintenance of internal technical databases and project records.

Tools, automation and AI-assisted workflows. Using Excel, programming and modern AI-assisted tools where appropriate to support technical evaluations, data handling, reporting, research and project workflows, while ensuring that outputs are properly checked and documented.

Independent work packages. Taking ownership of defined project tasks and helping drive them from initial request through completion.

Requirements
Advanced studies, preferably at Master’s level, in Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, Construction Materials or a comparable technical field. A combination of engineering and business-related studies, such as an engineering Bachelor’s degree followed by a Master’s in Business, Management or a related discipline, is also particularly welcome.

A good understanding of engineering processes, materials and/or industrial production systems.

At least two years of relevant experience in one or more of the activities described above, gained through internships, research projects, student assistant positions, industrial projects or professional experience.

Strong analytical skills and the ability to structure technical information, identify open questions and translate them into concrete next steps.

A structured and reliable way of working, with a strong sense of ownership and attention to follow-up.

Comfortable coordinating with different internal and external stakeholders and keeping track of multiple parallel workstreams.

Strong written communication skills and the ability to prepare clear technical documentation for different audiences.

Good command of Excel and other analytical tools.

Basic programming or data-analysis skills, particularly Python, are a strong plus. Experience with AI-assisted coding or AI agents is welcome but not required. We expect candidates to be comfortable learning these workflows quickly and using them diligently, including checking outputs, validating calculations and maintaining clear, reproducible work.

Fluent English; German is a strong plus.

An entrepreneurial and hands-on mindset, with an interest in turning technical ideas into practical and commercially viable solutions.

Your benefits
Direct involvement in real technical projects, working across R&D, suppliers, laboratories, partners and commercial teams.

Responsibility from an early stage, with ownership of defined work packages and project follow-up.

A steep learning curve across engineering, project execution, materials, sustainability and commercialization.

Exposure to industrial product implementation, from technical concept and supplier discussions through experimental work, testing and customer documentation.

Proximity to decision making, working closely with R&D and company leadership.

Exposure to modern AI-assisted technical workflows, including practical use of automation, data analysis and AI agents in day-to-day engineering work.

International exposure, supporting projects and partners across different markets.

Hybrid work in Berlin, with occasional laboratory, supplier or project visits where relevant.

Meaningful impact, contributing to technologies designed to reduce emissions and improve the resource efficiency of critical infrastructure.
