About the role

About this Role
We're looking for an eCommerce Shopify to own the technical architecture, development, and continuous optimisation of Valerie's Shopify ecosystem across multiple ecommerce brands. You'll work closely with Product, Growth, Design, Content, and Marketing teams to build fast, scalable, and high-performing ecommerce experiences that directly impact customer experience, SEO, conversion, and revenue. Success in this role isn't measured by how much code you write; it's measured by the reliability, performance, scalability, and business impact of the platforms you build.
You could be a great fit if...
You enjoy owning Shopify platforms end-to-end rather than simply delivering development tickets.

You naturally think about scalability, performance, maintainability, and long-term architecture before writing code.

You enjoy solving complex technical problems and can confidently make engineering decisions with minimal direction.

You understand that website performance, technical SEO, and customer experience are just as important as feature development.

You communicate technical concepts clearly and can work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

You enjoy mentoring other developers, leading technical discussions, and raising engineering standards.

You proactively identify opportunities to improve platform performance, developer workflows, and engineering efficiency.

You enjoy working in fast-moving startup environments where priorities evolve and ownership is high.

Requirements
6–9 years of hands-on Shopify and ecommerce development experience.

Strong full-stack development experience using Shopify, Liquid, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Next.js, HTML, CSS, and REST/GraphQL APIs.

Proven experience building, customising, and scaling Shopify stores.

Strong understanding of technical SEO, Core Web Vitals, website performance optimisation, and modern frontend best practices.

Experience implementing GA4, Google Tag Manager, and ecommerce analytics.

Experience with Git, code reviews, CI/CD, and modern software development workflows.

Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to independently own technical architecture and delivery.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across Product, Growth, Design, and Marketing teams.

Experience working in high-growth startups or multi-brand ecommerce environments.

Bonus Points
Experience with Shopify Plus or headless commerce architectures.

Experience with AWS, Vercel, Cloudflare, or modern cloud infrastructure.

Experience integrating ERP, CRM, payment gateways, fulfilment systems, or other third-party platforms.

Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or ChatGPT to improve engineering productivity.

Experience mentoring developers or leading technical projects.

Knowledge of accessibility (WCAG), A/B testing frameworks, and experimentation platforms.

You probably shouldn't apply if...
You prefer working only on assigned development tasks rather than owning the technical direction of a platform.

You aren't interested in website performance, technical SEO, or conversion optimisation.

You struggle to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

You prefer highly structured environments where priorities rarely change.

You rely on others to identify technical problems instead of proactively recommending improvements.

You aren't comfortable making technical decisions, leading discussions, or taking ownership of production systems.

You prefer working in isolation rather than collaborating closely with Product, Growth, Design, and Marketing teams.

You view engineering as simply writing code instead of solving business problems through technology.
