About the role

Tax Research Specialist Intern
Remote-United States
Monday to Friday 8:00 to 5:00 pm (32 hours per week)
We are looking for a curious, detail-oriented intern who is eager to learn how tax research, testing, and software development come together to support corporate and pass-through tax compliance solutions. Prior professional experience in tax, software, or tax software is not required. We’re searching for candidates whose educational background or coursework has introduced them to accounting, tax, data analytics, Artificial Intelligence tooling, or a related field. This role is designed for someone who is motivated to build foundational knowledge, ask insightful questions, and support the team during our annual production cycle while building practical skills through guided, hands-on experience. Our intern will work remotely with experienced tax and software professionals to research tax form changes, assist with automated and manual testing of calculations, document requirements, and gain exposure to how tax software is created and maintained. What You’ll Learn and Contribute

Research changes to tax forms

Interpret the tax code and regulation updates that drove those changes

Document changes by providing requirements to tax programmers

Design and execute test cases to confirm correct implementation of tax law changes

Create test scenarios for jurisdiction approval of paper and electronically filed tax forms

Test tax return calculations for accuracy, consistency, and usability

Contribute to release notes, technical explanations, and customer-facing guidance as needed

Develop and update documentation to support our processes and tools

What technical skills, experience, and qualifications do you need?

Pursuing a degree in Accounting, Tax, Information Technology/Management, or similar field

Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to ask thoughtful questions and document findings accurately.

Collaborative, responsive, and willing to learn from cross-functional team members

Adaptable and comfortable adjusting to shifting priorities, evolving processes, and changing project needs.

Technical Exposure and Tools

Ability to responsibly use AI-assisted tools to improve tax research, testing, analysis, and documentation while recognizing AI limitations and confirming results against reliable sources.

Proficient with Microsoft products

Exposure to advanced Excel formulas, data validation, or spreadsheet-based analysis a plus

Comfort reviewing detailed requirements, test cases, and technical documentation

Exposure to or interest in tax software or tax research applications a plus
