About the role

At idealo, we've built a strong SEO foundation. Now, we're looking to take the next step. As AI-powered search experiences such as ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, and Gemini increasingly influence how people research products and make purchasing decisions, we want to ensure idealo becomes a trusted and frequently cited source within these new shopping journeys.
As our GEO Manager, you'll take ownership of developing Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) as an additional growth discipline alongside our established SEO activities. Combining your technical SEO expertise with hands-on experience in AI search optimization, you'll develop our GEO strategy, establish meaningful visibility monitoring, and drive experimentation to understand what makes content and data discoverable, relevant, and citable by generative AI systems.
You'll work closely with our SEO team and collaborate across Product, Engineering, Content, Brand, and Communications to turn emerging opportunities into scalable solutions.

About your new role
GEO Strategy & Development: You develop and drive idealo's GEO strategy and experimentation roadmap, building on our existing SEO foundation. You identify opportunities across generative search platforms and AI-assisted shopping journeys, translating emerging developments into actionable initiatives aligned with our broader SEO and business objectives.

AI Visibility & Performance Monitoring: You establish and continuously improve a GEO monitoring framework covering platforms such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews. You define relevant KPIs, including mention and citation rates, share of voice, sentiment, and positioning within AI-generated answers, and develop dashboards that make performance and progress transparent to different stakeholders.

Technical GEO Optimization: You leverage your technical SEO expertise to improve how generative AI systems discover, interpret, and reference idealo's content. This includes optimizing structured data (Schema.org), semantic relationships, product and offer information, and identifying technical opportunities to strengthen our visibility and accessibility across AI-powered search experiences.

Experimentation & Competitive Analysis: You design, implement, and evaluate GEO experiments, analyze idealo's visibility against relevant competitors, and translate findings into concrete optimization measures. You continuously assess emerging GEO tools, methodologies, and platform capabilities to improve our approach.

AI Shopping & Content Optimization: You explore how idealo's product, pricing, and offer data can become a valuable information source for AI agents and agentic commerce. Together with Content Marketing, you assess existing content and develop answer-focused, well-structured formats that strengthen relevance, authority, and citation potential.

Cross-functional Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing: You connect technical SEO and GEO requirements with Product and Engineering initiatives and collaborate with Brand and Communications/PR on authority-building and digital PR opportunities. You actively share your expertise, communicate findings to stakeholders, and contribute insights from the evolving AI search landscape to idealo's long-term SEO strategy.

Skills & Requirements
3-5 years of hands-on SEO experience, with a clear focus on technical SEO.

Strong technical SEO fundamentals: site architecture, crawlability, indexing, Core Web Vitals, JavaScript SEO, and experience running full technical audits.

Practical understanding of how generative search systems retrieve, summarize, and cite content.

Experience with data analysis, KPI definition, and translating data into recommendations.

Hands-on proficiency with core SEO tools (Google Search Console, GA4, Ahrefs or Semrush, Screaming Frog or similar crawler).

Familiarity with structured data, semantic models, and entity-based SEO.

Experience with GEO/AI visibility tools (e.g., Profound, AirOps, Rankscale, Peec AI, Otterly).

Strong AI mindset: willing to test new GEO tools and methods and share learnings with the team.

Excellent communication skills, able to present technical findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders across Engineering, Product, Content, Brand, and Communications/PR.

Experience in e-commerce, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL or reporting automation with tools such as n8n are a plus.
