The Risk Intelligence & Automations team sits at the core of Chipper Cash’s mission to build a trusted, compliant, and frictionless financial ecosystem across Africa and beyond.
We design and deliver systems that detect fraud, automate compliance, and power data-driven decisions spanning onboarding controls, vendor integrations, screening services, authentication, and real-time transaction monitoring.
We operate as a lean, AI-first engineering team, building the internal infrastructure that enables Chipper to move fast while staying secure and compliant.

About the Role
As a Software Engineer, you’ll work on end-to-end product features across our modern Python + TypeScript + SQL stack—owning development from backend APIs to data pipelines and light frontend tooling. You’ll be embedded in a small, autonomous team shipping real impact across compliance, fraud, and risk systems.
You’ll collaborate with data engineers, compliance stakeholders, and ML practitioners to design scalable, reliable, and automation-first systems that keep Chipper’s ecosystem.
What You’ll Do
• Build and extend backend services in Python and TypeScript (Node.js) powering fraud detection, screening, and compliance automation workflows.
• Design and maintain SQL-based data models and transformations (DBT or similar) to support analytics, dashboards, and rule engines.
• Develop lightweight frontends and internal tools to automate manual compliance workflows.
• Contribute to the architecture and reliability of end-to-end systems, ensuring high uptime and observability.
• Collaborate with data science teams on AI-driven automation projects, including LLM-assisted decisioning and review summarization.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code while participating in reviews, documentation, and release processes.
What We’re Looking For
Required Skills
• Strong programming skills in Python and TypeScript/Node.js, with a desire to work across the full stack.
• Solid understanding of SQL and data modeling principles.
• Demonstrated ability to take ownership of projects from concept to production.
• Interest in building systems that intersect risk, compliance, and intelligent automation.
Preferred Skills
• Familiarity with React or React Native for internal tools.
• Experience with DBT, Airflow, or similar data pipeline tools.
• Exposure to Large Language Models (LLMs) or AI-driven workflow automation.
• Knowledge of authentication, KYC/KYB, or fraud detection systems is a plus.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Proven experience (2–5 years) in backend or full-stack development, ideally within fintech, compliance, or data-intensive environments.
• Strong proficiency in Python and TypeScript/Node.js, with a solid grasp of modern development frameworks and design principles.
• Hands-on experience working with SQL databases, including schema design, query optimization, and data modeling.
• Demonstrated ability to design, build, and maintain scalable backend services or APIs.
• Experience with version control (Git), unit testing, and CI/CD best practices.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on system reliability and automation.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with data, compliance, and risk teams.
Location:
This role is based in Nigeria and follows a hybrid work arrangement. Candidates must be currently residing in Nigeria and able to collaborate with both local and remote teams.
