About the role

nu:legal is building the first AI platform that takes legal, regulatory, and bureaucratic processes off companies' plates end-to-end. Not for law firms, but for the companies themselves, from mid-sized businesses to fast-growing teams that finally want their legal handled without the hassle. We're a small, ambitious team in Berlin/Potsdam.

You own the entire design area as the first and central designer in the company. That means no art director and no huge structure. Instead, real influence, real responsibility, and a product you shape from the start.

Tasks

Own UX as your core focus: plan and run user tests with real users, analyze them, and turn the insights directly into product improvements.

Evolve the nu:legal product, from UX concept through UI design to implementation in Figma.

Actively maintain and grow our existing design system, components, tokens, and patterns, so it scales with the product and stays usable for engineering.

Work closely with engineering, marketing, and management, iteratively and directly.

Beyond the product, help shape what we show the outside world: brand, marketing assets, and website.

Requirements

At least 3 years of professional experience in product design / UX and UI. You can independently run a complete design process.

You're a Figma pro: components, variants, auto layout, design tokens, design library.

You can make and defend clear, well-reasoned design decisions, even when you're the only designer in the room.

You're good at reducing complexity: not leaving things out, but making them understandable.

You're comfortable with AI tools and ready to use them to optimize and rethink processes.

You bring your own ideas, work in a structured way, and take ownership of the entire design area.

You question existing workflows and product decisions, are open to real innovation, and use AI actively as a tool.

Benefits

Competitive salary plus equity. You build with us, you participate in the upside.

Real design ownership over a product from day one.

Direct collaboration with the founders and a small, ambitious team.

Regular home-office days and one month of remote work anywhere.

Top equipment (laptop, design monitor).

Application Process

Intro call (~30 min): a first read on both sides and a check against the honest "What to expect".

Design interview: we go through your portfolio, your process, and your UX decisions together.

Practical design task: compact and on real problems, not a throwaway test.

Meet the team.

Final conversation with the CEO/founder.

Offer.

Application

Include a link to your work (portfolio, case studies, Figma files). You'll convince us more with real content and solid design process and UX decisions than with AI-generated portfolios. We respond to every serious application within two weeks.
