About the role

As a Senior Prototyping Engineer – Thermal Systems & Cooling Integration, you will become an integral part of our Prototyping team, supporting the development of our Reliant platform – a next-generation long-range eVTOL unmanned aerial system designed for demanding ISR and logistics missions. Reliant combines exceptional endurance, modularity, and operational flexibility to deliver mission-critical capabilities in the most challenging environments.
In this role, you will be responsible for the integration, development, and validation of thermal management and cooling systems for the aircraft. You will develop efficient cooling concepts for hybrid propulsion components, power electronics, avionics, and other heat-generating systems by optimizing airflow, aerodynamic cooling, and thermal integration. Working closely with mechanical, propulsion, and systems engineering teams, you will ensure reliable operation across demanding flight and environmental conditions.

What is your Day to Day Mission:
Lead the integration and development of thermal management and cooling systems for UAVs.

Design and optimize cooling concepts for combustion engines, generators, power electronics, avionics, and other onboard systems.

Develop aerodynamic cooling solutions, including airflow management, ducting, air inlets and outlets, heat exchangers, and passive and active cooling concepts.

Define thermal system architectures balancing cooling performance, weight, packaging, reliability, and manufacturability.

Design, build, and commission prototype cooling test rigs and instrumentation for system validation.

Plan and execute thermal, environmental, endurance, and performance test campaigns.

Analyze thermal performance, airflow distribution, and system efficiency, implementing improvements based on test results.

Collaborate closely with propulsion, mechanical, structures, and systems engineering teams to optimize thermal integration within the aircraft.

Support simulation activities and correlate analytical models with physical test results where appropriate.

Prepare technical documentation, verification reports, and engineering recommendations.

What you bring to the team:

Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Aeronautical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline.

5+ years of experience developing and integrating thermal management or cooling systems in aerospace, automotive, motorsport, industrial machinery, or similar industries.

Hands-on experience designing and integrating air-cooled systems, aerodynamic cooling solutions, or airflow management for engines, electronics, or other high-power systems.

Strong understanding of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, cooling system design, airflow management, and thermal testing.

Experience with cooling components such as heat exchangers, fans, ducting, air intakes, ventilation systems, and thermal insulation.

Experience designing and executing engineering validation and prototype test campaigns.

Familiarity with CAD tools (CATIA preferred); experience with CFD or thermal simulation tools is advantageous but not essential.

Experience with thermal instrumentation, sensors, and data acquisition systems.

Programming experience with Python, MATLAB, or similar data analysis tools is an advantage.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Fluent in English; German is a plus.
