About the role

Job Title: Household Data Specialist - Video Capture (Japan)
Job Type: Contractor
Location: Remote, Japan-based.
Job Summary
Help train the next generation of personal robotics. You'll capture high-quality video demonstrations of everyday household tasks using a UMI gripper, a wearable device that mimics a robot's hand while letting you perform tasks naturally. Your demonstrations become training data that teaches robots how to operate in real homes.
Key Responsibilities

Capture and submit high-quality, specification-compliant video demonstrations of everyday household tasks using a UMI gripper wearable device.

Follow detailed, task-specific instructions to ensure all recordings meet rigorous project standards.

Review feedback from assigned reviewers and iteratively refine your approach to improve data quality.

Operate and set up recording equipment and the UMI gripper to accurately mimic real-world hand movements while performing tasks.

Communicate proactively and clearly with the customer’s project team, both in writing and verbally.

Maintain a consistent weekly workflow to meet the minimum approved data requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Keen attention to detail and demonstrated ability to follow complex specifications precisely.

Manual dexterity and experience with physical task precision in varied household environments.

Comfort with operating, wearing, and setting up specialized devices and recording equipment.

Capacity to incorporate feedback and make iterative improvements to processes and outputs.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including openness to prompt feedback exchanges.

Reliable access to a fully equipped Japanese household environment (kitchen, living spaces, and common items).

Ability to upload large video files via stable, high-speed internet from your home environment.

This role involves prolonged use of a VR headset; candidates should be comfortable with extended wear as part of their regular work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Genuine curiosity about personal robotics, AI, and emerging technology in home environments.

Prior experience participating in data collection, usability studies, or similar hands-on projects.

Patience for repetitive, precision-oriented work and willingness to adapt as project needs evolve.

Compensation structure
This is a Pay-Per-Task (PPT) project. You're paid per hour of approved data that meets the project specifications.
Start Timeline & Availability
We typically fill roles within 48 hours, so we're looking for teammates who are ready to jump in. If selected, we'd love for you to start your first task as soon as you move forward with your application. The expectation is to begin completing tasks within ~24 hours of completing onboarding.
Equipment Requirements
This project involves performing household tasks while wearing a VR headset and a pair of wearable hand-tracking gloves that capture your hand movements and the visual demonstration. All equipment will be shipped to you at no cost, with full setup and usage instructions provided during onboarding. Please ensure your home environment meets the space, lighting, and connectivity requirements covered during onboarding.
