POSITION SUMMARY
CVS Health Digital is looking for hands-on, passionate people who want to join a high energy and growing team to make a difference in customers’ lives and who want to be on the forefront of digital innovation that aims to reinvent what a pharmacy and a health care company can be in the digital world. Currently, we are seeking a Director of Enterprise Systems who will play a vital role in leading the engineering transformation and optimization of our HP NonStop (Tandem) platform. This Director will provide strategic leadership to HP NonStop infrastructure engineering, DevOps, and automation teams, driving modern engineering practices and ensuring the successful delivery of mission-critical solutions that align with business objectives. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership experience in enterprise-class platform engineering, with expertise in DevOps methodologies, infrastructure automation, and modern software development practices that can be applied to HP NonStop environments.
Expectations for the Role:
Leadership and Strategy

Develop and execute engineering strategies for the HP NonStop infrastructure landscape and the enterprise Performance Engineering practice that align with organizational goals and business objectives, including the integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities

Lead and mentor teams of platform engineers, DevOps specialists, automation engineers, and performance engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and modern engineering practices

Recruit, train, and retain high-performing engineering talent with expertise in enterprise platforms, DevOps, automation technologies, performance engineering, and emerging AI-driven solutions

Provide thought leadership on platform engineering, DevOps transformation, infrastructure automation, AI-enabled operations, and performance engineering best practices

Drive the adoption of modern engineering methodologies including CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and site reliability engineering principles within enterprise platform environments

Develop strategic performance engineering roadmaps, implement and monitor SLAs, and track team performance metrics across all areas of responsibility

Platform Engineering and DevOps

Lead the transformation of HP NonStop systems management through modern DevOps practices, automation frameworks, and AIOps capabilities

Architect and implement CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment strategies for HP NonStop applications and infrastructure

Drive infrastructure automation initiatives, including AI-assisted operations and predictive analytics, using tools and methodologies that can be adapted to HP NonStop environments

Establish monitoring, observability, and alerting solutions that leverage AI-driven anomaly detection to provide comprehensive visibility into HP NonStop system performance and health

Implement Infrastructure as Code practices and configuration management for HP NonStop systems

Champion containerization, microservices, and cloud-native principles where applicable to HP NonStop workloads

Performance Engineering

Supervise and direct the team of Performance Engineers, including contractors

Establish and maintain enterprise-wide performance testing standards and drive the adoption of advanced performance monitoring, analytics, and AI-powered predictive capabilities

Manage the performance testing intake process and report on project metrics

Own enterprise performance testing tools, including LoadRunner, and associated VM server infrastructure

Own the non-production development and test environments supporting performance engineering activities

Participate in project delivery activities including monthly releases, migrations, upgrades, and deployments

Engineering Excellence and Innovation

Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of HP NonStop systems using modern engineering principles

Drive API-first development and integration strategies to modernize HP NonStop application interfaces

Implement automated testing frameworks, including AI-augmented testing, unit testing, integration testing, and performance testing for HP NonStop applications

Establish engineering standards, code review processes, and quality gates for HP NonStop development

Foster a culture of experimentation and innovation, encouraging the evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies including artificial intelligence and machine learning

Collaborate with architecture teams to design scalable, resilient, and maintainable HP NonStop solutions

Security and Compliance Engineering

Implement security-by-design principles and DevSecOps practices for HP NonStop systems

Automate security scanning, vulnerability assessment, and compliance reporting processes, leveraging AI-driven threat detection where applicable

Design and implement automated security controls and monitoring for HP NonStop environments

Drive vulnerability compliance remediations and support audit initiatives across all owned platforms and tooling

Cross-Platform Collaboration and Integration

Collaborate with teams managing other enterprise platforms (mainframe, Unix, Linux, cloud) to share best practices and drive consistency

Lead integration initiatives between HP NonStop systems and modern cloud platforms, APIs, and microservices

Drive standardization of tooling, monitoring, logging, and observability across diverse platform environments

Vendor and Technology Management

Establish and maintain relationships with HPE, DevOps tool vendors, performance testing tool vendors, AI and automation platform providers, and contractor vendors

Evaluate and implement modern tooling and technologies, including AI-powered solutions, that enhance HP NonStop and performance engineering capabilities

Coordinate with vendors for platform modernization, automation tools, and engineering support services

Budget and Resource Management

Manage budgets for HP NonStop engineering, performance engineering operations, automation tools, AI initiatives, and platform modernization efforts

Make strategic decisions on tooling, technology investments, and resource allocation to maximize engineering efficiency

Track and report on engineering productivity metrics, automation ROI, and platform modernization progress

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

10+ years of proven experience in enterprise-class platform engineering

7+ years of experience in any of the following platforms: HP NonStop, IBM mainframe (z/OS), IBM iSeries (AS/400), Unix/Linux enterprise systems, or large-scale distributed systems

5+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams, including direct reports and contractors, with a demonstrated ability to drive transformation and foster innovation in complex technical environments

Deep expertise in DevOps methodologies, including CI/CD pipeline design, Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, and automated testing frameworks

Experience with performance testing methodologies, tools (such as LoadRunner), and quality assurance practices in enterprise environments

Proven track record in platform modernization and transformation initiatives in enterprise environments

Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, Splunk, or similar platforms

Knowledge of API development and integration patterns, microservices architecture, and cloud-native technologies

Experience with security automation, DevSecOps practices, and vulnerability compliance remediation in enterprise environments

Strong understanding of site reliability engineering (SRE) principles and practices, with a focus on MTTD/MTTR

Experience with disaster recovery automation and business continuity planning for critical enterprise systems

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience with HP NonStop (Tandem) systems, including NonStop OS, NonStop SQL/MX, or NonStop application development

Experience with financial services or healthcare transaction processing systems

Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and modern software development practices

Familiarity with AIOps, AI-driven testing, or machine learning applications in infrastructure management, performance engineering, or security operations

Experience managing vendor relationships, technology budgets, and resource allocation for engineering initiatives

Experience establishing and maintaining enterprise-wide performance testing standards and strategic performance engineering roadmaps

Experience implementing and monitoring SLAs and engineering team performance metrics

Excellent problem-solving abilities and capacity to manage complex engineering projects across multiple teams and stakeholders

Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with diverse technical and business stakeholders

Experience managing non-production development and test environments in large enterprise settings

ITIL Foundation or higher

AWS, Azure, or GCP cloud certifications

DevOps or SRE-related certifications (e.g., AWS DevOps Engineer, Google SRE, Docker/Kubernetes certifications)

Performance testing certifications (e.g., ISTQB Performance Testing, LoadRunner certification)

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree or, equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)

Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$144,200.00 - $288,400.00This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
