About the role

The Technical Project Manager is responsible for delivering infrastructure, cloud, and transformation projects from planning through completion. The role manages project scope, timelines, budgets, risks, resources, and client expectations while applying lean and agile project management practices.

Working closely with clients, engineers, consultants, and vendors, the Technical Project Manager translates business and technical requirements into clear project plans and ensures successful delivery. The role may also support client-led initiatives such as infrastructure refreshes, cloud migrations, M&A-related IT transitions, and transformation projects.

The position also contributes to improving internal project management processes, templates, and tools to promote consistent, efficient, and high-quality project delivery.

Responsibilities

Presales

Advise the sales team on technical delivery requirements, risks, and scheduling.

Review proposed solutions to ensure feasibility and alignment with client expectations.

Project Planning

Ensure that all customer projects are well planned, considering reasonable timescales to complete the work, contingency, risk planning, resource availability and client expectations

Support the Professional Services Manager to schedule client projects, balancing resource availability and client expectations.

Set clear project expectations and deliverables with the client to ensure a common understanding of the scope and metrics of the project as a baseline in accordance with the commercial agreement.

Technical Project Management

Act as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the technical delivery lifecycle, managing expectations, communicating progress, and supporting clients in fulfilling their responsibilities during infrastructure and cloud-based projects.

Collaborate with internal technical teams (e.g., engineers, consultants) to ensure that all project tasks are delivered on time, within scope, and to the required technical standards and cost parameters.

Coordinate with external partners and vendors to ensure third-party deliverables meet the company’s technical and operational requirements, maintaining seamless integration with internal workstreams.

Manage all changes and exceptions from a technical, logistical, and commercial perspective — including scope adjustments, risk mitigation, and resource reallocation — ensuring alignment with client objectives and contractual commitments.

Provide regular internal updates on project status, technical progress, and risks to enable effective prioritization, resource planning, and escalation where necessary.

Apply agile principles to project delivery, adapting plans and priorities in response to evolving client needs, technical constraints, or emerging opportunities, while maintaining a focus on quality and efficiency. They will have a solid background in Azure/M365 and Infrastructure change initiatives in a MSP setting

They will have technical oversight and accountability for the technical success of project and not just administer the success

The Technical Project manager will understand technical discussions and collaborate and contribute to all design decisions.

PMO & Continuous Improvement

Put in place and continually review templates and guidance for project planning to raise the standard of project planning in the company and to enable others to plan smaller projects to a consistently high standard

Continually monitor and improve the processes for delivering projects to produce greater efficiency and reliability, leveraging automation where possible

Have a “lean and agile” mindset, looking continually to improve and expedite processes without compromising quality of delivery

General Responsibilities:

Maintain up to date knowledge of company’s operational procedures and Employee handbook and comply with the requirements

Work collaboratively with team members

Participate fully in company-wide initiatives

Undertake other duties as may reasonably requested by management

Client-Embedded Project Delivery

Serve as a client-facing resource, embedded within client teams to manage internal or third-party projects, applying company’s delivery standards and methodologies.

Represent the company professionally while operating within client environments, maintaining high standards of communication, delivery, and stakeholder management.

Provide strategic input and technical oversight for client-led initiatives, ensuring alignment with best practices and business objectives.

Act as a bridge between client stakeholders and external vendors, facilitating smooth delivery and issue resolution.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Project Management certification such as PRINCE2, PMI, or Agile.

Technical certification such as Microsoft, Azure, or Cisco.

At least 5 years of experience managing IT infrastructure projects, including:

On-premises or cloud infrastructure refresh projects.

Microsoft 365 migrations or mergers.

Azure migrations or transformation projects.

Infrastructure, file, and user migration outsourcing projects.

Backup and storage projects.

Experience working with SME customers.

Experience managing projects across various industries using Waterfall, Agile, and/or Hybrid methodologies.

Experience delivering infrastructure migrations, cloud implementations, or SaaS implementations.

Strong technical understanding of infrastructure and cloud environments.

Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills.

Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills.

Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and maintain strong attention to detail.

Strong problem-solving, negotiation, influencing, and decision-making skills.

Agile mindset with a strong focus on quality and customer satisfaction.

Ability to lead others, build professional networks, and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Commercial awareness and ability to design and implement effective processes.

Strategic thinking and research skills are a plus.
