Job Role: Financial Accountant
Compensation range: $2,500 AUD - $3,000 AUD / Monthly
Engagement type:Independent Contractor Agreement
Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.
Who We Are: At Hunt St, we help Australian companies hire top remote talent in the Philippines. For this role, you will be engaged directly by the client as an independent contractor. We are not an outsourcing agency. All of our roles are 100% remote so you'll be able to work from home.
Who The Client Is: The client is an established Australian professional services firm providing accounting, tax, advisory, and financial services to individuals and small-to-medium businesses. They take a holistic, client-focused approach, delivering integrated solutions across compliance, advisory, and wealth services.
Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Financial Accountant with a strong background in Australian taxation and compliance. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a structured environment, takes ownership of their work, and communicates clearly and professionally with both internal teams and clients.
You will be responsible for preparing accurate financial reports, managing tax compliance obligations, and ensuring all work is review-ready. The ideal candidate has at least three years of hands-on Australian tax experience and is confident using Xero and Xero Practice Manager (XPM).
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Compliance

Prepare financial statements for companies, trusts, partnerships, and sole traders

Ensure compliance with Australian accounting standards and tax regulations

Assist with month-end and year-end reporting processes

Prepare workpapers and maintain clear documentation for review

Taxation

Prepare and review Income Tax Returns (ITR), Company Tax Returns, Trust Returns, and BAS

Assist with FBT, PAYG, and other compliance lodgements as required

Ensure deadlines are met in line with ATO requirements

Identify potential tax issues and escalate appropriately

Client & Team Communication

Communicate clearly regarding missing information, deadlines, and outstanding items

Work closely with senior accountants and reviewers to ensure accuracy and quality

Provide timely updates on job progress within XPM

Systems & Process

Manage jobs and workflows through Xero Practice Manager (XPM)

Maintain accurate client records and job tracking

Ensure bookkeeping data in Xero is clean and reconciled prior to preparing financials

Follow established SOPs and contribute to process improvements

Required Skills and Qualifications:
Required:

Must be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Minimum 3 years of hands-on Australian tax and accounting experience

Strong working knowledge of Australian tax regulations and ATO compliance

Proficiency in Xero

Experience using Xero Practice Manager (XPM)

Strong written and verbal English communication skills

High attention to detail and accuracy

Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritise effectively

Preferred:

Experience working with Australian public practice firms

Exposure to a variety of entity structures (SMEs, trusts, groups)

Experience preparing BAS and IAS independently
