About the role

At Flix, we offer a tech-driven environment where innovation meets real-world impact, with competitive pay, strong growth opportunities, and a culture of collaboration and ownership.

The Pricing Services team, located in the Demand Division, collaborates closely with Marketplace, Search, Ancillaries and the Booking funnel, to maximize revenue and provide affordable ticket prices for customers. Every time a traveler searches, books, or updates a trip with FlixBus, a pricing request is sent to our services that calculate the correct price based on numerous business inputs and manage capacity in real-time.
As part of our team, you will play a pivotal role in continuously evolving our pricing services for new market launches and complex new features. Our team is part of the Demand Division, Demand Management Stream, and you will also become a member of our engineering community.

We're looking for a motivated and product-driven Software Engineer (m/f/d) in Berlin who will help us shape our team and have the most direct influence on our success. As part of a cross-functional development team, you will work in the complex and challenging domain of Dynamic Pricing and Revenue Management. You will be responsible for building scalable pricing services and tools used by multiple systems.

About the Role

Design, build, and maintain distributed, responsive, resilient, and message-driven systems using PHP, Golang, and AWS services, with a strong emphasis on high availability and fault tolerance in a pricing-critical context

Navigate and contribute meaningfully to a large, complex codebase, applying clean code principles, consistent patterns, and thoughtful refactoring where appropriate

Actively participate in Pair Programming, Mob Programming, and Code Reviews, fostering a culture of shared ownership and continuous learning

Support, maintain, and improve existing services — proactively identifying reliability, performance, and scalability bottlenecks

Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to enhance productivity, code quality, and development speed, while exercising sound engineering judgment over generated output

Co-create high-value products and features in close collaboration with stakeholders and the wider team

Identify opportunities through stakeholder engagement and translate business needs into well-defined technical solutions

Contribute to backlog refinement and prioritization, aligning delivery with strategic product goals

Strike a pragmatic balance between engineering quality and delivery pace, making deliberate trade-offs transparently

About You

4+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer with strong, production-grade PHP skills

Demonstrated experience working on Platform or API products in a distributed, microservices environment

Hands-on experience with message streaming (e.g., Kafka or similar), Kubernetes, RESTful/HTTP APIs, and AWS services

Comfortable working in and contributing to a large, established codebase — able to read, understand, and improve unfamiliar code confidently

Product-minded engineer with a genuine interest in understanding user needs, business outcomes, and stakeholder dynamics

Strong communication skills, with experience or interest in stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration

Familiarity with AI-assisted software development practices and the ability to critically evaluate and integrate AI-generated suggestions responsibly

Willingness to participate in the on-call rotation alongside the rest of the engineering team

Knowledge of Revenue Management Systems (RMS) architecture or pricing platform concepts is a plus

We recognize that everyone carries a unique set of valuable skills and experiences. If you think you could have an impact even though you don't meet 100% of the requirements, we still encourage you to apply. We want to hear from you!
